Dr. Wawrzyniec (Wawosz) Lawrence Dobrucki is an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering and the Carle-Illinois College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a full faculty member at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, where he leads the Experimental Molecular Imaging Laboratory (EMIL). In addition, he serves as a scientific consultant for Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure Poland at the Medical University of Gdansk. Dr. Dobrucki is also the co-founder of PhantomCOR Inc., a biomedical startup.
Dr. Dobrucki’s expertise lies in preclinical molecular imaging, with a focus on developing innovative targeted multimodal imaging strategies to noninvasively assess tissue microenvironments and biological processes in vivo. His research includes areas such as therapeutic neovascularization, atherosclerosis, tumor progression, and evaluating cancer responses to experimental therapies.
With over 17 years of experience in translational bioimaging, Dr. Dobrucki has developed and validated numerous novel SPECT/PET radiotracers and multifunctional contrast agents. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Ohio University in 2003. Before joining the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Illinois in 2013, he held junior faculty roles at the Yale University School of Medicine and was a Senior Research Scientist at the Beckman Institute, where he directed the Molecular Imaging Laboratory within the Biomedical Imaging Center.
